This January, we’re setting aside 21 days to seek God through focused prayer and fasting. It’s more than a spiritual routine—it’s a time to draw closer to Him, remove distractions, and prepare our hearts for what He wants to do in our lives, families, and church.
The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions and obstacles for a spiritual purpose. Fasting hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It enables us to experience and celebrate in a fresh way the goodness and mercy of God. It also prepares our hearts for the blessings, plans, and purposes God desires for us.
Your personal fast should represent a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 NIV
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7-9 ESV
We’re setting aside time to gather and pray during the fast.

May I make these 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting really count. May I experience a deep personal revival that lasts well beyond these 21 Days. May I come to know, love, and trust You more deeply than ever before.
Revive me, Lord. Fill me – and keep filling me – with Your Holy Spirit. I surrender to You and whatever You want to accomplish in and through me this coming week. (Eph 5:18)
May I surrender to and engage Your Word as the sure foundation for how I am to think, feel, and act. Open my mind and heart to hear You speak to me through Your Word. (Ps 119:105, Ps 19:7-11, Heb 4:12-12)
May Your Word identify and displace strongholds and worldly mindsets that hinder my knowing You and Your ways. Grant me the gift of repentance so that I can more clearly see and think from Your Kingdom’s perspective. (Col 2:8, Rom 12:2)
May Your Word not just inform me. May it lead and guide me. Give me a growing passion to obey Your word — to put Your word into practice. (John 8:31-32, Matt 7:24)
Revive me, Lord. Fill me – and keep filling me – with Your Holy Spirit. I surrender to You and whatever You want to accomplish in and through me this coming week. (Eph 5:18)
Shine your light on my heart. Grant me a fresh intolerance of sin and compromise in my life. Grant me a repentant heart so I may surrender and throw off those burdens and sinful ways that hinder my capacity to know and follow You. (Is 59:2, Heb 12:1)
By Your Spirit, show me who You want me to forgive, and I will forgive them fully as You have forgiven me. May no bitter root grow in me, which might cause trouble or defile others. (Col 3:13, Heb 12:15)
May my spiritual ears be sensitized to hear more clearly what You’re saying to me. Sharpen my ability to hear You
speak to me throughout my day – in my devotional time, my family, my small group, and my workplace. (Is 50:4-5,
1 Kings 19:11-12)
Revive me, Lord. Fill me – and keep filling me – with Your Holy Spirit. I surrender to You and whatever You want to accomplish in and through me this week. (Eph 5:18)
By your Spirit, show me the wounds, hurts, and offenses that I carry and manage in my heart. Show me how they have hindered my relationships with You and with others. Help me to depend on You and You alone to heal my broken heart. (Ps 145:18, Is 61:1-4)
Grant me wisdom, courage, and strength to love others as You have loved me. (Jn 13:34-35, 1 Jn 4:19)
Strengthen my relationships with my family and with my brothers and sisters in Christ. May I experience genuine unity and fellowship with those You have called me to walk with. (Heb 10:24-25, Heb 3:12-13, Ps 133)
Pray each segment for 5 minutes to cover a full hour with God.

Learn the different types of fasts and find what works for you (Soul Fast, Selective Fast, Partial Fast, Complete Fast).
Not necessarily. There are several ways to fast:
Soul Fast: Removing distractions like social media or entertainment.
Selective Fast: Removing certain foods (e.g., Daniel Fast—no meat, sweets, or bread).
Partial Fast: Skipping meals or fasting during certain hours.
Complete Fast: Drinking only liquids (water, light juices).
Use the One Hour Prayer Guide or the daily prayer points to stay focused. Prayer and fasting always go hand in hand—you’re not just abstaining, you’re filling that space with God’s Presence.
Start small and be intentional. Choose a fast that challenges you but is also realistic for your health and lifestyle. Most importantly, seek God in prayer and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.
